Friends of UMFM strives to assist aspiring students with a love of grassroots community radio, media and the arts is through providing funding to assist them with their educational endeavors through a number of different avenues.
Scholarships & Bursaries
Our intention is to offer a mix of scholarships and bursaries will be available to a wide variety of potential awardees on an annual basis. Each scholarship or bursary shall be awarded by a committee comprised of experts, headed by members from the Friends of UMFM Board.

Education, Knowledge Sharing & Training Experiences
As the media continues to change and evolve at a rapid pace, it’s important to celebrate and support the innovations of campus and community led grassroots media in Manitoba.
Friends of UMFM will host speakers, including current and former hosts and producers who are members of the organization, as well as a wide range of members of the community who can offer knowledge and inspiration.

Facilitating Connections
Another of the immediate effects that the Friends of UMFM can have is facilitating education through connecting alumni of student-led media and current students with an interest in broadcast journalism. The advice of successful professionals who have made it through similar experiences could prove to be an invaluable resource for those wishing to improve their skills and transition into a professional career.

Internships
An issue that our board has identified as a way to make an immediate improvement to Manitoba’s broadcast journalism education is by facilitating internships within the local media. These will be determined on an individual basis with the help of the local media outlets, and provide an invaluable stepping-stone in terms of practical education.
