Our Mandate

Our main goal at Friends of UMFM Inc. is to provide support in Manitoba, continuing to build on and share the skills learned by those who have previously benefited from experience in student-run media. These activities will be open to anyone who is interested, particularly those who plan careers in the media, audio or visual production or the arts.

Friends of UMFM is geared towards providing activities that will achieve these purposes, facilitated by the knowledge of former student broadcasters who have gone on to successful careers and have expertise and experiences to share. To that end, we will provide scholarships, organize speakers’ series, raise campus/community awareness of student-led broadcast media, support professional development, assist with capital costs for aspiring broadcasters and producers, facilitate connections between media professionals and students, facilitate internships, provide access to facilities to build on existing skills, while developing new ones, all as ways to help student-led media to expand and improve coverage.
